Bidet Install

Tonya used a bidet at a friend’s 5th wheel and decided she wanted one in our Dutch Star!

I did some research on the usual Facebook groups and IRVC2 forums and found that the best bet for use with our Dometic 8740 Macerating toilet in the Master Bath was a Brondell Swash 1400. Based on the recommendations on the groups, as well as a lengthy conversation with the support folks at BidetsPlus (they were the best price and very helpful) I got BEIGE color and the round size.

As you can see by the pictures, the match is as good as you can get considering they are not really designed to perfect!

The installation was really super easy! The bidet came with a tee that would be great for a residential install, but was not the right size for the RV. Since it was going to be hidden behind the toilet, I just got pvc/poly fittings to keep things light and easy. Having the escape door behind the toilet also makes this install super-easy!

I shut off the water to the coach, turned off the water pump and flushed the toilet. This released the water pressure. With a towel tucked under the water connector to the toilet, I removed the existing connector and only had a little drippage.

I put teflon tape on my fittings, put one in one side of the tee and one in the bottom. I had gotten my fittings at Lowe’s so mine looks a little different than the parts here, but I’m going to order these so the install looks cleaner and replace the ones I have.

Connecting the tee to the toilet was easy, as was putting the original fitting on the opposite side. I just added the hose from the bidet to the tee and the work in the back part of the toilet was done!.

Taking the old seat off involved removing the two plastic screws. Gave the toilet a quick clean, installed the baseplate for the bidet, snapped it in place, then connected the water hose to the bidet (all following the included instructions).

Last step was to plug it in, turn the water and water pump back on, check for leaks and test things! We are going to have Newmar install an outlet next time we are up at the Service Center so we can clean up the extension cord and plug the bidet in at the bottom rear corner of the cabinet.
