By popular demand, we did a Livestream tour of Hobart on our TikTok and then loaded the recorded tour to YouTube. You can see the tour here and the post-tour Q&A here, but make sure you watch the story of why Hobart is Hobart below!
Meet our Toad / Camper Van
Hobart D. Explorer
Finding a ‘turnkey’ flat towable RV to take around the county with us was no simple feat! Most units we found that could be ‘converted’ to be flat-towable required drive-shaft disconnects and were not ‘supported’ by the manufacturers to be flat-towed.
After a ton of research, phone calls, talking to folks, etc. We found a 2008 Roadtrek 190 Popular 4×4 that fit the bill!
The Roadtrek 190 Popular is a great little campervan. It has a nearly queen bed, toilet, hall shower, and full kitchen. The 4×4 model is a Quigley 4×4 conversion done to the original van, which adds a transfer case with neutral and front hubs that do not cause problems with flat towing.
After confirming with Quigley that the van would work for our needs, we purchased it and worked with the great folks at Street Image in Rapid City, SD to install an AirForce One braking system, BlueOx baseplate and setup the wiring for towing.
Additionally, we worked with Sound Pro in Rapid City to upgrade the stereo and add front, side, and dual-rear cameras to make Hobart easier and safer to drive.
