One of the challenges with our coach that is common for lots of the big motor coaches these days is they do not have a built-in ladder to get to the roof. This means we need to carry one. Even if you have a built in, it only helps with the roof, not with any other ‘high’ areas you may need to access on your coach.
When we first got our coach, I did research, like many of us do, and I settled on a telescoping ladder that was tall enough to allow me to extend beyond the top of the coach and more ‘safely’ get onto/off of the roof. Here is the one I selected and the carrying bag I use (with links to Amazon
The next challenge is where to store it. For the first couple of years, I had it in a basement compartment. I did not love this as it took up a good bit of space and was something that I rarely used. I needed to have it with us, I needed it to be readily available when it was needed, but I only needed it every once in a while.
I did more research (that is what I do) and found lots of folks ‘talked’ about storing it on top of their generator. There is no room on my generator for anything…so that was out….BUT…
There is a bunch of space in front of the generator! This is also a very strong steel frame that the generator/generator slide is built on. I thought…why not!
I found that the ladder fit very will upright in this space and with a couple of tie-down straps, would not move! Here are pictures of my final setup:
We also put together a short video about our setup
